Dylan Avery Grows Up, a Bit

Slate is doing a series of articles on the 9/11 conspiracy theorists, including Dylan Avery, the seldom heard from creator of the conspiracy nutjob movie our blog is named in honor of.

What does Avery think of 9/11 conspiracy theories now? He thinks that while orchestrating the attacks was beyond the scope of the Bush administration, there was "considerable foreknowledge" within the government so that it should have been able to prevent them. Why it did not is his new focus. "Where I am now is, I've whittled it down to a very basic statement that I think a lot of people can agree on: There was a cover-up of some kind," Avery says. "The only question is what they were covering up, how far [up] it goes, how deep it runs, and how many asses would be on the line if the truth actually came out."

He says he still "support[s] the movement," but he also acknowledges getting "sucked in" deeper than he should have been, into a "hardcore mentality that it was almost too easy to get into back then, because the war had just started and everybody was just so pissed off."

"It was easy to distrust everything," he says, "because there was nothing you could trust."

In honor of this momentous occasion, I will turn the comments back on. Behave.

I hate that truthers will always have the 'I was naive' excuse, so that they can wipe their hands clean of their involvement with 9/11 nuttery.

While I would accept such an excuse from someone in 2008 when they only were part of the 'truth' movement for a few months, a person like Avery needs to admit that they never believed their crap in the first place and were only in it for personal gain.

Slate article:

Conspiracy theories thrive by appealing to existing hatred, paranoia, and uncertainty. The hatred can wither. The paranoia can crack. And the uncertainty can disappear. But the conspiracy theory lives or dies, prospers or fades, for reasons almost entirely unrelated to its actual content.

Remember when Dylan said all that melted iron got in the dust from the clean-up torches, and then said anyone who disagreed was 'retarded'?

Did he ever man up and retract those stupid, unscientific, demonstrably false claims?

Remember when the lying jackass from Palo Alto, CA, who has more sock puppets than IQ points, made the "demonstrably false" assertion that says "iron-rich" means "elemental iron"?

Did he ever "man up" and present hyperlinks to the spectra that supports the "demonstrably false" assertion that says "iron-rich" means "elemental iron"?

And didn't someone, who shall remain nameless, promise to remove off-topic comments designed solely to hijack the thread?

Avery, for more than a few years now, has seemed to me very uncomfortable as a truther. I suspect he has long come to privately believe very little of what he originally promoted in Loose Change.

Huh. Unexpected this is. But good for him. However, is he going to start apologizing for all his smug arrogant comments to people he's debated over the years? As well as some of the horrible accusations he's made, like to Bernard Brown? What about a retraction of some of the things he's put into his Loose Change films?

Probably none of the above, as I'm sure from the beginning this was all just fiction to him and something make a buck on. He probably has finally found something non 9/11 to make money on, that will get him noticed, and is basically trying to clean up his image so he can move forward. I still think he's a collosal douche, but... less so now.

Honestly, kudos to Dylan. But he's really the one most responsible for this whole thing to begin with. If he's dropping it, then shit, I say we all should and stop tainting the real things we should be remembering 9/11 for.

But that all depends on people like Brian Good.

Dylan Avery is a normal enough guy who just had an angry, paranoid phase when he was younger (I was there too when I was 16. I thought the government shot down TWA 800). He outgrew it.

Brian Good is a hopeless lunatic who will never give this stuff up, so we should just mock him for it.

Of course, regardless of Dylan's stepping back from the ledge, "Loose Change" is still a steaming pile of crap that joins such classics as "Pearl Harbor" and "The Boondock Saints" among movies I've rated 1 star on Netflix.

Alex, the primary reason that Dylan no longer believes a lot of the stuff in the original Loose Change is because cooler heads in the truth movement took him by the hand and gave him some much-needed schooling.

Ian, come on, be reasonable. Loose Change is nowhere near as bad as Pearl Harbor.

You realize it seems like he doesn't believe in a lot of the stuff you "cooler heads" believe in, right?

I guess the cooler heads haven't wasted their time with someone as insignificant as you, since you still babble endlessly about magic thermite elves.

My, such squealing!

Brian, we know what you believe because you've told us many times: you believe that magic thermite was used to destroy the towers, except when it wasn't and explosives were used. You believe George W. Bush blew up the towers, except when he didn't and Osama bin Laden did. You believe that the towers fell in symmetry and totality and at free-fall, except when they didn't and the core held up, "proving" your "meatball on a fork" model. You believe the NIST report is dishonest and unbelievably, except when it's an infallible source of authority that you cite.

Most hilariously, you believe that the "widows" have questions.

Avery is still a scumbag, whatever excuses he makes today. However, his statement is revealing in that it shows ideology, not the supposed "science" was his motivation all along and that applies to all other twoofers.

The document lists 300 questions. There are checkboxes for the widows' rating of the responses:

1. Question answered (27)
2. Question got response but no answer (73)
3. Question got no response (200)

I think Lorie van Auken is a widow because she said she was.

The Washington Post has an article on ambulance chaser April Gallop.

Apparently the twoofer cultists haven't shown up yet since the comments are (appropriately) overflowing with contempt for her "story."

Ian, why you think it's funny to lie about the victims of 9/11 I can't imagine. The people here who allow you to do it have no class at all.

CD, if Ms. Gallop is an ambulance-chaser it must have been her own ambulance she was chasing. Nice trick if you can pull it off.

Squeal squeal squeal!

Why wasn't Laurie Van Auken at the WTC on 9/11? What was she doing so far away while heroes like Willie Rodriguez were trying to save people like her husband?

I'm just asking questions.

I don't know why she would have wanted to be at the WTC. All I know is that the reports on her whereabouts that day are dishonest, incomplete, and unbelievable. That's why we need a new investigation.

FAKE HERO PISS POOR MAYOR

Former Mayor of New York City, TIME magazine named Giuliani the 2001 Person of the Year. The magazine paid tribute to Giuliani as "the Mayor of the World." I say BULL!
Rudy Giuliani, the mayor of New York City in 2001, was hailed by many as a 9/11 hero who guided the city and the nation through its most horrifying day. AGAIN BULL! But, instead of being hailed as a hero for his actions on and after 9/11, he could have been seen as untruthful and suspiciously evasive. He was certainly unconcerned about the dangers to residents and employees who spent time at Ground Zero in the weeks that followed. After the attack the 9/11 Report" stated NY was not propare under Mayor Giuliana! Giuliani went to a wedding the next day!
Giuliani said in 2001 that he had been told the twin towers would collapse on the morning of 9/11. If that’s true, why didn’t he warn the firefighters who were climbing the two towers to get people out? And why did he change his story six years later? Giuliani is know hero he is a failure made a hero by the media! The NY resident know the real story about the fake hero!
According to an interview he did with Peter Jennings of ABC News at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2001, Giuliani said he had been told by officials in his own Office of Emergency Management that the twin towers of the World Trade Center were in danger of imminent collapse.
But how could he or anyone from the OEM know this? There was no precedent for a steel-framed building collapsing due to fire. And the impact of airliners, by the government’s own admission, did not bring the towers down. Giuliani is a big big liar!
Former NY Mayor Giulianai who ridiculed and accuse President Obama of being weak and inexperience! He also claims President Obama associating with terrorist when Young Obama was eight years old! Giulianai is a made up media hero because of 9/11. He was weak on 9/11! Guiliani the Mayor did NOTHING to prevent 9/11! There where radio ( walkie talkie) brought by the Giulianai administration.
The radios where worthless during 9/11 firefighters and police officers COULD NOT communicate! Giulianai build a bucker for his administration at the tune of 2 million dollars of taxpayer’s money! The day after 9/11 Giulianai went to a wedding. It took President Obama to fight with Republican to get healthcare for the NY survivor of 9/11...First responders where forgotten by Giulianai. He was more concern with his image and cheating on his wife! He fire the true hero of bringing down crime! Or should I say the person instructed to attack minority and arrest minority for any and everything!
His first Chief of Police was fire because Guiliani wanted all the credit. Then he hire a criminal that is in prison TODAY! When Giulianai ran for President in 2008 he thought attacking President Obama. And ridiculing all Community Organizers” attacking the experience of Senator Obama! Catering to the Birther and racism …HE WOULD WIN…….WRONG! Giulianai started off as the Republican front runner. Then the American people heard him talk about NOTHING! They also took into consideration his children can’t stand him and voted against him!

Now I understand that the idiot wants to run in the 2012 election! WHY? He is not quantified to be President! He is a flip flopper on many issue. The Catholic church refuse Holy Communion because he is so immoral.
